Hard Rock Off Road Park – This park is located in Ocala, Fl. and boasts a section devoted to Jeeps and other off road vehicles. The park is open seven days a week from 10 am – 5 pm. Cost is $25 per day per vehicle. Camping is also available for $20 per day with water and electrical hook-ups. There are also hotels located nearby for those who would prefer not to camp onsite.

Jeep Off-roading is not an activity that only professional drivers can participate in, it is something that normal everyday people can enjoy and compete in. The only required items that the driver must have is an off-road ready vehicle and a sense of adventure. But for someone who is a beginner, the sport may be a bit intimidating, this is why we’re here, to offer you some simple tips that will help make your first off-road adventure fun and not stressful.

The first thing beginning drivers need to pay attention to while out on the trails is the speed at which you are driving. Maintaining constant momentum, while driving is one of the most important things in off-road driving. Being able to control your momentum is crucial to making it successfully through tough driving conditions such as mud and sand.

The next thing you should be aware of is which gear to use in certain circumstances. Four-wheel drive is best used when one or more of your tires may come off the ground during the course of driving. If the trail you are driving on is primarily smooth rock, sand, gravel or ice you should use all-wheel drive. This will provide you with the handling and flexibility needed to successfully drive on these terrains.

Jeep off-road driving requires that your vehicle have a tough and sturdy suspension. Many off-road drivers prefer to use softly sprung and dampened long-travel suspension systems to ensure that their vehicle stays in contact with the ground at all times. It is mainly the choice of the driver as to which type of suspension system they prefer, if you are not sure if your suspension is adequate simply ask someone at your local shop or another experienced driver.

These are only a few of the many things beginners should be aware of, but as with many other activities experience is the only way that you can become a skilled Jeep off-road driver. When you’re first starting out, never feel pressured to attempt a trail or crawl that you know you are not experienced enough to handle. Attempting something beyond your skill level may result in severe damage to your Jeep or worse, injury to yourself or others. Always know your surroundings and keep an eye on the road, this will help you avoid any surprises while you’re driving. Once you have mastered the art of off-roading, you will open a world of adventure and thrills that you will wonder how you lived so long without it.

Off-roading is a great way to spend a weekend; you get the sense of adventure while enjoying some beautiful scenery. Jeeps can be a lot of fun, but while enjoying everything your Jeeps has to offer, it is also important that you take the proper safety precautions as well. Below we have listed a few safety tips to help you and those around you stay safe out on the trails.

Pack Enough Supplies – Whenever you head out on the trail it is important that you pack enough food, snacks and water. You never know when something may happen and you find yourself stranded out on the trail. If you’re ever stuck or broken down for a long period of time you will be very happy that you remembered to pack extra food and water. It is recommended that you pack double the amount of food and water you would normally take.

Pack Warm Clothes – Just because it was in the 70’s when you left doesn’t mean it’s going to stay that temperature all day. Once the sun goes down so does the temperature, if you should happen to break down on the trail you will be thankful that you packed some warm clothes before you headed out on the trail.

Wear Good Shoes – You wouldn’t think that your footwear would be that important in off-roading but it can make all the difference in the world. If you should need to push your Jeep you want to have shoes that provide you with the ability to grip the terrain. You also want to have shoes that will help you walk over rocky and rough terrain should you need to walk out and find help.

Carry A Flashlight – Every off-roader knows that sometimes the unexpected happens and you may find yourself stuck out on the trail in the dark. If you should ever find yourself in this situation you will be extremely grateful that you took the time to store a flashlight in your Jeep. You also want to check the batteries every few months to ensure that they still work; there’s nothing worse than finding your flashlight only to have it die within a few minutes.

Always Have A First-Aid Kit – There are all sorts of dangerous things out on the trail that you might run into. Depending on the location you may encounter snakes, poison ivy, bugs and even the ordinary scrapes and cuts. If your Jeep should break down or your tire should need changing you may encounter an injury that needs attention.

And always have spare Jeep parts with you! You know your Jeep better than anyone so you know which Jeep parts are most likely to cause grief. Have spares of those Jeep parts that you can easily carry along.

While these are only a few tips to help keep you safe while off-roading they are some of the most important. Off-roading is a thrilling way to spend a weekend, but staying safe out on the trail is important. Have fun and always be prepared for the unexpected.

Jeeps have been around since before World War II, and people have been looking for ways to modify them since the beginning. Drivers have more resources and options in the customizing of their Jeeps than they have ever had. Many Jeeps are primarily used as off-road vehicles while others tend to be used more on a day to day basis for everyday driving. For those of you who enjoy driving your Jeep without the doors, we are going to offer you step by step instructions for safely removing the doors from your Jeep.

The first thing you need to do is to open your door and examine the door jamb to locate the hinge connectors that are holding the door to the frame. During this inspection period you also need to determine if there are any power cables attached to the locks or windows of the door. After you have determined how the door is powered, you are ready to begin the removal process.

If your door is equipped with power cables you will need to disconnect them. Once this has been done unhook the two connecting straps that are used to keep the door from swinging freely. These straps have no other purpose than keeping the Jeep door from opening too far; however, they need to be removed in order to proceed to the next step.

Next you will need to loosen the Torx head bolts from the door hinge. It is important that you not remove one bolt at a time because it can place more pressure on the final bolt which may cause the threads to be stripped. Instead you will want to loosen each bolt from its secured position until it can be moved easily, repeat this step until all of the bolts are loosened.

Once the bolts have been loosened you can remove them moving from bottom to top. After the top bolt is removed the door is ready to be removed from the frame. Using upward force move the door in and out until the door pops free from the connecting hinge. To prevent the door from becoming damaged during this step, it is recommended that you have someone help hold the door.

After the door has safely been removed from the Jeep frame replace the Torx head bolts back into the hinge. This will lessen the chances of you misplacing them and they are there when you are ready to put the doors back on.

Now that you have taken the doors off your Jeep you can enjoy driving around door free. Many off-roaders prefer this look when off-roading. Removing the doors from your Jeep is not that difficult, it is just a manner of personal taste as to whether you prefer them on or off.

Suspension lifts are often used by owners who want their Jeeps to look higher off the ground than stock models. While this offers you the ability to personalize your Jeep, it also has benefits for those who choose to take their Jeep off roading.

A suspension lift also accommodates larger sized tires and improves the vehicles off roading ability. Installing a suspension lift on your off roading vehicle can also add greater articulation, ground clearance and allow you to maneuver over larger obstacles.

There are different types of suspension lifts on the market, the most common lift that is used is typically a body lift which adds an additional one to three inches of height to your vehicle. A body lift generally only involves the addition of rubber spacers between the frame mounts and the body. This type of lift does not typically improve the off roading performance of your vehicle or add additional ground clearance. This type of lift is generally used by those who only wish to make their Jeep look better.

If you’re looking to add ground clearance and improve the off roading ability of your vehicle you should consider installing a suspension lift. A suspension lift adds or modifies the majority of the factory suspension in order to add ground clearance and improve approach angles. There are two types of suspension lifts available, the long- arm and the short-arm lifts. A short-arm suspension lift is a basic suspension lift that tends to be relatively inexpensive, but it changes the stock geometry of the vehicle which can affect the ride. A long-arm lift is used when more of the suspension components are to be replaced. This type of suspension lift provides better maneuverability over larger road obstacles.

If you’re mainly interested in adding a lift to fit larger tires onto your vehicle any type of lift will provide you with enough space. The addition of larger tires for vehicles driven off road provide better traction and allow the driver to negotiate larger obstacles such as rocks or trees. The type of lift you install should be based on how you use the vehicle and what types of terrain you drive on the most.

Everyone at XtremeTerrain would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and the best of the holiday season. In closing, we would also like to share this little Christmas poem with you.
Merry Christmas to all…

My Christmas Wish For You

My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you’ve been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too ..
We wish you a merry Christmas

Today I want to share a poem I cam across by a very talented writer I might add, while reading the news feed on Facebook today. Cindy Homans Creighton posted this ode that is fitting for all Jeep owners who know how to have fun in their Jeeps. Thank you Cindyfor allowing me to share your great poem and picture with all of our readers!

Ode to My Jeep
At Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas,
And everyone was asleep;
It was a perfect night,
For a rip in the Jeep.

I quietly slipped out,
Snow was gently falling;
When I got to the trailhead,
A Barred Owl was calling.

The trailhead was blocked,
By a big mound of snow;
Time to air down,
And put ‘er in 4-Low.

I tried to crawl it first,
But this mound was no mini;
I backed ‘er back up,
And gave ‘er the skinny.

She blasted up and over,
This snow mound with ease;
With lockers turning all wheels,
She was aiming to please.

It was a beautiful night,
A shame to waste on sleep;
This is what I call quality time,
For me and my Jeep.

The trail was pristine,
The off-camber sections were nice;
But then she plunged into a hole,
And crashed through the ice.

The tires spewed slush,
And the engine did roar;
But it was time to unspool,
My trusty 8274.

The winch it pulled,
As the tires they spun;
A big smile on my face,
This was all part of the fun.

We’re rolling again,
But it’s time to head back;
Santa will soon be here,
And I must hit the sack.

I put another log on the fire,
And headed up to sleep.
I drift off dreaming,
Of fun times in my Jeep!

Christmas is just around the corner but it isn’t too late to pick out the perfect gift for your off roader! Granted, I generally speak of mostly Jeep off roading items but we all know there are many types of off roading vehicles out there so I wanted to make sure I included everyone and every type of off roading vehicle driver in my list of gifts you can get for your special off roading enthusiasts.

This list will include gifts and ideas that are under $25.00 for any off road enthusiasts. If you don’t see something on this list, stay tuned because the next several blogs will be gift ideas for any off-roader!

Digital Tire Gauge $12.99:
As every off roader knows, a tire gauge is essential in deflating your tires to the right pressure for the terrain, and then airing back up before hitting the roads home. If your off roader is tired of trying to read the lines that are in 2 pound increments on those pencil tire gauges then this easy to read and accurate digital tire gauges in half-pound increments is for them! Lower the tire pressure for those off-road trips and then accurately re-inflate them to the safe recommended tire pressure for on-road use. These gauges save fuel and extend tire life. Made of high impact plastic.

Air Deflator

Air Deflators $15.95
These air deflators are a must have for any trail vehicle. Airing down your tires increases traction and handling when off-road, but can take forever when you are in a hurry. These air deflators make the job easier so you can get out onto the trail. A key chain ring keeps them close at hand. Constructed of zinc plated steel for durability

If you haven’t found just the right gift off this list, more great ideas in upcoming blogs!!!
