Pete Lopes

Today’s featured Jeeper is Pete Lopes. Pete is more than just a Jeeper, he has also started hi own off roading club with the help of a few others called DIZTURBED KRE@TIONZ. Although still in its early stages, Pete and the rest of their group hope many more will join in on the fun! Now without further ado.. here is more on Pete Lopes!

XtremeTerrain: Tell us a little about you Pete..

My name is Pete Lopes. I am 31 yrs old and live in Gloucester, MA. I’m dating a wonderful girl – Deanna Palmisano. I grew up in Gloucester and went to the public schools here also. I work as a full time mechanic at Tom’s Auto Center in Peabody, MA. On my off time, I’m usually either on the trails or down the shop fabricating new things for the Jeep. I enjoy camping and spending time with the family and friends.

XtremeTerrain: What type of Jeep do you run?

Pete: I own 2 Jeeps – my daily driver is an 04 Jeep Liberty with a 3″ lift from Rough Country and sits on 31″ BF Goodrich all terrains. Other than that, it’s pretty much stock. My other Jeep is a beast! It is a 1987 Jeep Cherokee with an 8″ Rock Crawlers lift in the front with a custom 3 link that I fabbed and the rear is a 6″ full size Chevy leaf and 3″ shackles. The Chevy leafs extended my wheel an 1.5″. the diffs are stock temporarily with 3.55 gears and a rear locker. All the doors and back have been cut off and tubed in. The exo roll cage is in the works as we speak. The transfer case has a slip yoke eliminator with a gear reduction kit. I fabbed my own rocker skids added an on-board air system using the AC pump. Many more things to come.

XtremeTerrain: Favorite spot to off road?

Pete: My favorite wheeling spot by far is Rocky Mountain Terrain Park but when we can’t get there we have a local wheeling spot organized by a trail association. We pay 20 dollars, get a sticker and a key, and with rules, we can wheel anytime.

XtremeTerrain: Favorite off roading quote?

Pete: My favorite quote is “The design of this vehicle has been replaced by the owners insanity”, and “When in doubt throttle out”.

XtremeTerrain: If you could have any modifications done, what would they be?

Pete: If I could have any mod done, it would have to be a set of Rockwells to ensure a break free trip and to try everything and anything that gets in my way. I’m a bit of an adrenalin freak! LOL!

XtremeTerrain: Do you belong to any off roading organization, if so which one(s)?

Pete: I am the president and founder of DIZTURBED KRE@TIONZ. It was founded for a few reasons – one, to gather all friends that have the same insight and hobby and do what we enjoy; second, we like having fun but not having to deal with monthly dues and meetings; and thirdly, what I/we do is all get together and do car shows and terrain parks as a club. We help each other build our jeeps and that pretty much keeps us in contact daily. There are about 20 members with off road buggies to ATV’s and even stock. It’s not how it looks to us its how it performs to us. We have a website being designed for the club. The club may be small but we leave a lasting impression when we are seen. This wasn’t all started by me. There are a few people who also deserve major credit in making the club what it stands for today – Derek Lachance for designing our decals and partial website, Jeremy Mullins for starting the website and doing research for us; and the rest of the club for joining and making this happen

XtremeTerrain: How old were you when you first started off roading?

Pete: I was 18 yrs old when I started wheeling and since then it has become a full out passion. I have only owned and wheeled jeeps and wont have it any other way. At first, I didn’t know what I was doing and became weary of it but as time passed I just couldn’t stop. It seems to have been passed on to many of my friends who now all own and wheel their own Jeeps or are looking to get rid of what they have and join our jeeping adventure.

XtremeTerrain: Why you love Jeep Off Roading?

Pete: I love jeep off roading simply because anyone who owns a jeep can relate to this everywhere and anywhere you go. There’s a jeep with an owner full of stories and good times, not to mention jeeps are like Legos – everything and anything can and will fit. There’s plenty of car shows for all vehicles but jeeps stand in a class of there own.

XtremeTerrain: Any off roading story or incident you would like to share.

Pete: The funniest wheeling incident has to the time I snapped a rear axle shaft in the deep woods of New Hampshire. Literally 2 hours away and proceeded to drive home that way. Lol! I used the guardrail numerous times to push the axle back when it would walk itself out of the diff tube. Well that 2 hr trip took 6 hrs and got stopped 2 exits before the exit I take to get home. What are the odds of that happening? There are plenty more but that one still makes me hurt laughing just thinking about it.
