Nancy Cutright

Now here is yet another couple that knows, a family that Jeep’s together stays together. It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Cutright family – Nancy and Bob.

Nancy Cutright Powder Mtn

Hi! My name is Nancy Cutright. My husband Bob and I are in this as a team. We are both 56 years old. Between us we have 6 kids and 7 grand-kids. Bob is employed by an industrial cleaning company that cleans everything above ground at oil refineries and does a lot of work at various gold mines, copper mines, etc. He has been at his job the entire 19 1/2 years we have been together. I was recently laid off from my job of 7 1/2 years.

Nancy Cutright Steel Bender Trail, Moab

We drive a ’95 YJ. Even though we have done a ton of modifications to the vehicle, it is still considered a daily driver. The best modification was probably installing lockers. The worst or hardest was building the Dana 30 front axle. The next modification on the list is getting tube fenders. Not much more we can do and still keep it street legal.

Nancy Cutright Hells Revenge, Moab

Our favorite place to wheel has got to be anywhere in Moab. However, here in northern Utah we have Powder Mountain Ski Resort. By invitation only, the maintenance crew there takes a couple of the local 4×4 clubs and their invited guests on the trails and various obstacles throughout the resort. This is a great privilege and we all look forward to it each year.

We belong to the Big Horn 4×4 Club of Ogden, Utah. We meet the first Thursday of every month at 7 PM downstairs at ABC Mandarin restaurant in Roy. We belong to the Wasatch Outlaw Wheelers 4×4 Club of Ogden. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7 PM at the Ogden Airport Terminal Building. Both clubs are open to the public, especially if someone is wanting to join one of the clubs. There are several members that belong to both clubs.

My favorite off-road quote has got to be “You can doo eet”. We both love off-roading for the same reasons… the excitement and the feeling of accomplishment when we try a tough obstacle for the first (or tenth) time and make it. This is where that quote is heard most of the time.

Nancy Cutright Fordyce

One of my favorite stories up to this point has got to be during last years’ Southwest Crawlfest in Hurricane, Utah. We were on a trail called “The Maze”. We came upon one extremely difficult obstacle for our short wheelbase. Our spotter told us to do something. We did exactly as he said. We stood the front end straight up. Bob let off the gas, pushed in the clutch and hit the brakes with split second timing. As the front end eventually started to drop back down, our spotter’s eyes were the size of silver dollars. Everyone – especially him, thought we were going over. We didn’t and ended the day safe and sound.

We have only been doing this for about 3 years now but have managed to build a very capable, aggressive (yet street-legal and able to be driven on surface streets as well as the freeway) Jeep that we are very proud of. We love off-roading because of the feeling of excitement and accomplishment when you conquer an intimidating obstacle. We have made some great friends and met some wonderful people. There is a real ‘family’ atmosphere on most trails and runs we go on. People tend to stick together and help each other more than anything or anywhere we have ever seen. No one leaves anyone else stranded – on or off the trail. It is a great feeling to be a part of such a great group of people from all over the country that have a love for the outdoors and the environment. These people also share in the fight to keep our trails and public lands open by maintaining and cleaning them up – on every run, no matter where they are. I thank them all for their shared interests and fight in this and look forward to meeting more wonderful people and making more good friends in the future.
