ARB Snorkel, TJ ( 6 cyl) Built From Sept 1999-06

ARB Snorkel

Many off roaders have seen Jeeps that have a snorkel installed, the important question is do you need one on your Jeep. First let us explain what a snorkel is and then you can decide if your Jeep is in desperate need of one. A snorkel is a pipe-looking accessory that runs from the air intake under the hood and extends upward on the passenger side of the vehicle. The primary function of a snorkel is to provide the engine with cool, dry, clean air while off roading.

Along with providing clean, dry and cool air to your engine, a snorkel can also help prevent water and dirt from entering the engine. Providing your engine with cool air increases the amount of horsepower, improves the performance of your engine and will help your vehicle last longer. Using a snorkel allows you to keep your air intake free of water and mud if you cross any deep streams or rivers while off roading. If you are off roading in a dry dusty area, a snorkel will prevent dust and dirt from being pulled into your engine.

Many off road enthusiasts feel that the addition of a snorkel is important in maintaining your engine and keeping it free of water and dirt while off roading. Others feel that it is an unnecessary accessory to add. If you do the majority of your off roading in areas that are very dusty you may want to consider installing a snorkel. It also makes sense for those of you who do a lot off roading in wet areas or areas that require you to cross deep rivers or streams.

Deciding if a snorkel is necessary for your Jeep is purely up to you, but there are many benefits the most important being prolonging the life of your engine. Anyone who has had to replace the engine in their Jeep knows how costly it can be. Adding a snorkel may be something that only hardcore off roaders choose to do, but it is important that you understand the benefits a snorkel has to offer when making your decision.

Off roading is one of the most exciting and enjoyable ways to spend a weekend. While off-roading you will encounter beautiful scenery and meet new friends along the trails. It can also be a very demanding sport, which challenges drivers. The trails contain terrain that many drivers have never driven on before, this is why all drivers should follow these guidelines in order to safely return home.

Share Your Plans – It is important that you share your off-roading plans with relatives or friends. This will insure that someone other than you knows your location and the day and time that you plan on returning. If you do not arrive within an acceptable time of when you planned, your friends will be able to provide the location where you planned to off-road.

Have A Backup Vehicle – In the case of your off-roading vehicle becoming damaged beyond repair on the trails, you should always have another vehicle available to use as a backup. Having an extra vehicle will allow you to return home and tow your off-roading vehicle back. You will also be able to pull your vehicle if it should become stuck. A backup vehicle is always a good idea.

Have An Emergency Kit – As prepared as all drivers like to think they are, you never know for sure what may happen on the trail. If a situation arises where you become stuck or injured you will want to have access to an emergency kit. Your emergency kit should be stocked with first aid supplies as well as food and water.

Always Wear A Seatbelt – This is especially important to do while off-roading. The trails that you will be driving on are not as well kept as the roads at home. You and your passengers will be jostled and thrown around on the trail. Wearing a seatbelt will help keep you from becoming injured while driving or in the case of an accident.

These are only a few safety tips to remember, it is our goal to help keep you safe so that you can enjoy your time out on the trails.

With winter on the horizon, it is time to remind drivers of the dangers of driving in the snow. You never know when a storm can suddenly develop and leave roads a mess, this is why all drivers who live in an area that experiences winter driving conditions should be aware of safety precautions that are necessary if you happen to become trapped in your vehicle. Every weather situation is different but the following safety guidelines apply to all situations and can save your life.

Winter driving conditions offer their own unique type of hazards, which is why drivers should always have a winter survival kit in their vehicles. The survival kit should be loaded with food, clothing, water, an extra cell phone battery and blankets.

The food that you add to your survival kit should be dry packaged foods that will last for a long time. Foods of this nature include granola bars, trail mix, nuts, crackers and some types of candy. If you decide to add canned foods to your emergency kit, make sure that they have a lid that can be easily removed, such as a pull tab. This will allow you to access the food inside without going nuts trying to find a way to open the can. If you are willing to spend a few more dollars, you may want to add MRE meals that are available at military surplus stores as well as outdoor oriented stores.

Your kit should also contain extra clothing that can be used to provide warmth while you are stuck. The extra clothing should consist of boots, gloves, socks a blanket or sleeping bag. If you happen to get wet while venturing outside of your vehicle you will be grateful for the dry change of clothes.

Becoming stranded in the winter can also cause drivers to become dehydrated. It is important to have some extra bottles of water or Gatorade. This will help prevent dehydration. If you do not have access to fresh water, you can always eat snow or allow it to melt in order to drink.

These are just a few tips to help you stay safe in the winter months. Always be prepared and you will survive anything.

Old and New Ladder Bar

A ladder bar is a type of suspension unit that is installed on 4X4’s to prevent wheel hop on vehicles that have a coil spring. When installed the ladder bar is attached to the rear of the vehicle at the spring perch and is then attached to the chassis in front of the rear tires. When the driver steps on the gas and the vehicle the accelerator is pushed and the tires begin to gain traction. If you have a ladder installed it will prevent the rear tires from hopping up off the pavement. Wheel hopping has been shown to cause damage to the rear end, axles, body and chassis if a ladder bar is not installed.

When installed in an off-road vehicle, a ladder bar is used to provide better traction. By preventing the rear end of the vehicle and the front axle from rotating the 4X4 becomes more stable in situations where poor traction is experienced. The installation of a ladder bar also upgrades the braking system of the vehicle by limiting the amount of slop that a wrapped up axle produces.

The length and placement of the ladder bar controls the vehicles center point. The center point is an imaginary line which runs from the rear axle to the center of the chassis where the top and bottom control arms intersect. By moving the center point closer to the actual center of the vehicle, traction is improved because more downward pressure is placed on the tires. If the ladder bar is placed in a shortened area, the moving of the center will reduce the amount of traction on the vehicle. Placement of the ladder bar is crucial when used in an off-road vehicle, proper placement insures that the suspension will provide better traction and reduce the amount of slipping.

The ladder bar got its name from the design that was chosen. It is constructed of two long bars with several small bars placed in between. The end result is a design that resembles a ladder. A ladder bar tends to be wider at the rear and continues to get smaller as it goes up. A ladder bar is attached to the existing suspension system using helm joints and grade eight bolts. The decision to install a ladder bar is one that only the owner of the vehicle can make; it is up to you to decide if a ladder bar should be installed.

Front Tubular Bumper Shiny Black Without Hoop For Jeep CJ And Wrangler

Front Tubular Bumper Shiny Black Without Hoop For Jeep CJ And Wrangler

Many beginner off-roaders think that simply by purchasing a 4 x 4 they are ready to hit the trails and take on some rough terrain. What they don’t know is that without adding the proper off-roading accessories, they may unknowingly cause serious damage to their vehicle. Off-roading accessories have been designed to protect your vehicle while you are off-roading. Installing the proper equipment can make your off-roading experience all the more fun while also keeping you safe.

Many vehicles that come straight off the show room floor were designed for use primarily in cities and not on rough terrain. By adding a suspension lift kit to your vehicle you will be rewarded with improved ground clearance. This will provide you with added height to your vehicle and allow you to easily drive over any larger obstacles that other vehicles couldn’t attempt. A lift kit is designed to give you the extra clearance needed on many trails and prevents any damage from occurring to the underside of your vehicle.

Adding shocks that were designed primarily for off-road use will improve your vehicle’s performance. Shocks are designed to control the motion of your vehicle while keeping it from bouncing all over the place on a particularly bumpy trail. There are some things to take into consideration when choosing the appropriate shocks for your vehicle, you will want to choose a model that provides you with the maximum propelling force applied to the load, the speed at which you will travelling and the conditions of the terrain you will be primarily driving on will help you choose a shock that is suited for those requirements.

Adding an after-market bumper to your vehicle is also recommended. Many stock bumpers do not offer the level of protection that is required by off-roading vehicles. Because of the sometimes dense and rough terrain, having a bumper that offers protection to your radiator and engine is optimal. A proper off-roading bumper will protect your engine from being gorged by a tree limb or an outcropping of rocks. The last thing you want to experience while on the trails is a punctured radiator.
These are only a few of the many accessories that are available to customize your off-roading vehicle. If you are not sure of what parts you will need, explain to an expert the conditions of the areas you will driving in and you will be directed to the proper equipment.

3.5" Suspension Lift Kit (EZ-Ride) for 87-01 Cherokee 4wd - by Tuff Country

3.5" Suspension Lift Kit (EZ-Ride) for 87-01 Cherokee 4wd - by Tuff Country

Off-roading offers the driver and their passengers an adrenaline rush that is like no other. The thrill of climbing a rocky hill that looked unapproachable from the bottom is thrilling. However, with all of the fun and excitement that off-roading has to offer, it is also important to maintain your vehicle so that you can experience the thrill for years to come. Without proper maintenance your vehicle may become damaged and will not function properly when off-roading.

There are some steps you can take prior to beginning your off-roading journey that will help prolong the life of your vehicle. The first thing you will want to do is equip your vehicle with the proper tires for the terrain on which you will be primarily driving. Having a set of good tires will allow you to climb hills using less momentum and in turn will reduce the amount of stress that is placed on your vehicles suspension.

Maintaining lower air pressure in your tires while off-roading will also help prolong the life of your tires as well as that of your vehicle. Lower air pressure allows the tires to conform to the terrain on which you are driving and will help in your traction. Keeping your tires at a lower level of air pressure also allows the tires to be more flexible over rocks that may puncture them if they were at a higher level of pressure.

Installing extra protection to the under carriage of your vehicle will also help protect it from any large rocks or branches that you may pass over while driving. Adding a larger skid plate to your vehicle is highly recommended. When choosing a skid plate it is important to keep in mind the size of your vehicle and the location of your tanks and other parts that you want to protect.

By adding a lift kit to your vehicle you will be providing it with a higher level of clearance than it had before. This extra height will allow you to safely travel over obstacles that may have been dangerous before. A lift kit also allows for larger tires to be installed on the vehicle as well. A lift kit is designed to provide you with both a higher level of clearance as well as traction from larger tires.
