4" Foundation Series Kit for 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ by Iron Rock Off Road

4" Foundation Series Kit for 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ by Iron Rock Off Road

When people think of off-roading one of the first vehicles that come to mind is the Jeep Wrangler.  Modifying and upgrading your Wrangler can be an ongoing process in making it perform better while also becoming the ultimate off-road vehicle.  There are many different aspects that can be modified and improved in order to create the best off-roading vehicle possible, there are so many that beginners may begin to feel overwhelmed by all of the options available to them.  To help make the process easier on you, we are going to offer you some of the most common upgrades that should be made first.

The first thing you should do is to lift your Jeep, this can be done either by taking it to a mechanic who has experience working with off-road vehicles, or if you are mechanically inclined you can perform the lift on your own.  There are two types of lift kits to choose from, suspension lifts or body lifts.  A body lift is used to raise the body of your Jeep while leaving the suspension in its original position.  A suspension lift is used to add a higher suspension system to your Jeep.  Jeep lift kits are designed to provide your Jeep with more ground clearance and to make your vehicle more manageable on the off-road trails.

After you have chosen and installed a lift kit, the next modification you should make is to your tires.  In order for your vehicle to perform at its best while off-roading you should choose a set of tires that will provide you with the traction and performance necessary to enjoy your time on the trails.  Once you lift your Jeep the stock tires will look a little out of place, this is why you should purchase a set of larger tires that will improve your stability on the trails as well as making your vehicle look even better.

The next modification that many off-roaders add is a winch.  If you are planning to spend a lot of time on the trails it is likely that you may become stuck.  Installing a winch on your Jeep will allow you to pull yourself out of tricky situation.  A winch also comes in handy if any of your friends should become stuck, you will be able to help them.  Having your own winch can save you hours of waiting for someone else to come along and help you.  These are only a few of the most common upgrades that off-roaders make to their vehicles; if you are a beginner these are great places to begin your modifications.

Cindy Homans Creighton

(Repost but too good not to share once again!)

Good day all you Jeep enthusiasts.. Today I want to share a poem I cam across by a very talented writer I might add, while reading the news feed on Facebook today. Cindy Homans Creighton posted this ode that is fitting for all Jeep owners who know how to have fun in their Jeeps. Thank you Cindyfor allowing me to share your great poem and picture with all of our readers!

Ode to My Jeep
At Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas,
And everyone was asleep;
It was a perfect night,
For a rip in the Jeep.

I quietly slipped out,
Snow was gently falling;
When I got to the trailhead,
A Barred Owl was calling.

The trailhead was blocked,
By a big mound of snow;
Time to air down,
And put ‘er in 4-Low.

I tried to crawl it first,
But this mound was no mini;
I backed ‘er back up,
And gave ‘er the skinny.

She blasted up and over,
This snow mound with ease;
With lockers turning all wheels,
She was aiming to please.

It was a beautiful night,
A shame to waste on sleep;
This is what I call quality time,
For me and my Jeep.

The trail was pristine,
The off-camber sections were nice;
But then she plunged into a hole,
And crashed through the ice.

The tires spewed slush,
And the engine did roar;
But it was time to unspool,
My trusty 8274.

The winch it pulled,
As the tires they spun;
A big smile on my face,
This was all part of the fun.

We’re rolling again,
But it’s time to head back;
Santa will soon be here,
And I must hit the sack.

I put another log on the fire,
And headed up to sleep.
I drift off dreaming,
Of fun times in my Jeep!

Christmas is just around the corner but it isn’t too late to pick out the perfect gift for your off roader! Granted, I generally speak of mostly Jeep off roading items but we all know there are many types of off roading vehicles out there so I wanted to make sure I included everyone and every type of off roading vehicle driver in my list of gifts you can get for your special off roading enthusiasts.

This list will include gifts and ideas that are under $25.00 for any off road enthusiasts. If you don’t see something on this list, stay tuned because the next several blogs will be gift ideas for any off-roader!

Digital Tire Gauge $12.99:
As every off roader knows, a tire gauge is essential in deflating your tires to the right pressure for the terrain, and then airing back up before hitting the roads home. If your off roader is tired of trying to read the lines that are in 2 pound increments on those pencil tire gauges then this easy to read and accurate digital tire gauges in half-pound increments is for them! Lower the tire pressure for those off-road trips and then accurately re-inflate them to the safe recommended tire pressure for on-road use. These gauges save fuel and extend tire life. Made of high impact plastic.

Jeep Willys Shot Glasses

Crown Automotive Officially Licensed Jeep Willy’s Shot Glasses – Set of four, $14.95

Air Deflator

Air Deflators $15.95
These air deflators are a must have for any trail vehicle. Airing down your tires increases traction and handling when off-road, but can take forever when you are in a hurry. These air deflators make the job easier so you can get out onto the trail. A key chain ring keeps them close at hand. Constructed of zinc plated steel for durability

If you haven’t found just the right gift off this list, more great ideas in upcoming blogs!!!

Lower Yellowstone Falls closeup. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.

The use of ATV’s or off-roading vehicles is prohibited inside Yellowstone National Park, but there are plenty of authorized trails in the surrounding towns that allow access to roads surrounding the park. By utilizing these approved trails you will still be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and see parts of the park from the outside that many visitors never see. If you aren’t able to bring along your own ATV or 4×4 there are many companies in the surrounding area that will be happy to rent you some off-roading equipment.

Because of the Federal laws put in place to protect our national parks, many off-road enthusiasts have found fulfilling and adventure filled trails in the states surrounding the park. There are many enjoyable trails and parks in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Before exploring in any of these states it is important that you become familiar with the approved trails and know the boundaries of the area where you will be off-roading.

If you are unfamiliar with the area where you would like to go off-roading many equipment rental locations will have guides that are familiar with the area and know the regulations of that particular state or town. If you would prefer to travel without a guide ask the store for a map of approved off-roading locations that will allow the type of vehicle you will be using. Not all trails allow all types of vehicles, it is important that you become familiar with any limits regarding the area you will be in.

Since you will be exploring in unfamiliar territory you should always inform someone outside of your party where you will be off-roading and when you plan on returning. This will help them if they need to report your last known location if you happen not to return home on the day specified.

The area surrounding Yellowstone National Park is full of beautiful scenery many of which can only be seen from the vantage point of an off-road trail. If possible everyone should view the scenery of the areas surrounding Yellowstone, it will be an experience that will be hard to forget.

Blue Grass 4X4.com riding group... Kentucky Tourism

Off roading is one of the most exciting and enjoyable ways to spend a weekend. While off-roading you will encounter beautiful scenery and meet new friends along the trails. It can also be a very demanding sport, which challenges drivers. The trails contain terrain that many drivers have never driven on before, this is why all drivers should follow these guidelines in order to safely return home.

Share Your Plans – It is important that you share your off-roading plans with relatives or friends. This will insure that someone other than you knows your location and the day and time that you plan on returning. If you do not arrive within an acceptable time of when you planned, your friends will be able to provide the location where you planned to off-road.

Have A Backup Vehicle – In the case of your off-roading vehicle becoming damaged beyond repair on the trails, you should always have another vehicle available to use as a backup. Having an extra vehicle will allow you to return home and tow your off-roading vehicle back. You will also be able to pull your vehicle if it should become stuck. A backup vehicle is always a good idea.

Have An Emergency Kit – As prepared as all drivers like to think they are, you never know for sure what may happen on the trail. If a situation arises where you become stuck or injured you will want to have access to an emergency kit. Your emergency kit should be stocked with first aid supplies as well as food and water.

Always Wear A Seatbelt – This is especially important to do while off-roading. The trails that you will be driving on are not as well kept as the roads at home. You and your passengers will be jostled and thrown around on the trail. Wearing a seatbelt will help keep you from becoming injured while driving or in the case of an accident.

These are only a few safety tips to remember, it is our goal to help keep you safe so that you can enjoy your time out on the trails.
