(Repost but too good not to share once again!)

Good day all you Jeep enthusiasts.. Today I want to share a poem I cam across by a very talented writer I might add, while reading the news feed on Facebook today. Cindy Homans Creighton posted this ode that is fitting for all Jeep owners who know how to have fun in their Jeeps. Thank you Cindyfor allowing me to share your great poem and picture with all of our readers!

Ode to My Jeep
At Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas,
And everyone was asleep;
It was a perfect night,
For a rip in the Jeep.

I quietly slipped out,
Snow was gently falling;
When I got to the trailhead,
A Barred Owl was calling.

The trailhead was blocked,
By a big mound of snow;
Time to air down,
And put ‘er in 4-Low.

I tried to crawl it first,
But this mound was no mini;
I backed ‘er back up,
And gave ‘er the skinny.

She blasted up and over,
This snow mound with ease;
With lockers turning all wheels,
She was aiming to please.

It was a beautiful night,
A shame to waste on sleep;
This is what I call quality time,
For me and my Jeep.

The trail was pristine,
The off-camber sections were nice;
But then she plunged into a hole,
And crashed through the ice.

The tires spewed slush,
And the engine did roar;
But it was time to unspool,
My trusty 8274.

The winch it pulled,
As the tires they spun;
A big smile on my face,
This was all part of the fun.

We’re rolling again,
But it’s time to head back;
Santa will soon be here,
And I must hit the sack.

I put another log on the fire,
And headed up to sleep.
I drift off dreaming,
Of fun times in my Jeep!

Many of us may not even pay that much attention to what type of bumper we currently have installed on our Jeeps. But, if you are an avid off road driver, you will know exactly what type you have because you may have replaced the factory bumper with one that was more suited for your off-roading needs. A bumper may not seem like a very important piece of off-roading equipment, but many were designed with that idea in mind.

Off-roading Jeep bumpers are designed totally different than many factory bumpers. They were designed solely with the purpose of taking your vehicle off road. They come in many different sizes and shapes which serve different purposes. The first thing you will want to consider before purchasing a new bumper is what its primary function will be.

If you are just looking for protection from stray branches that you may happen upon while off-roading in your Jeep, choosing a design that will protect your grill and radiator from damage will be the best choice for you. There are many designs that meet these requirements; the first thing you will need to consider is the size of the bumper that will best fit your needs. After you have decided on the size, the next step is to choose the design. Depending on your personal tastes, you will find one that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional.

The other option is choosing a Jeep bumper that has a winch installed as part of the bumper. If you do not have a winch installed separately, this may be the right choice for you. A winch is an indispensible piece of equipment that can save you or any of your friends from becoming stranded while off-roading. There are many bumper designs that feature a winch as part of their design. Among many off-roaders this is the best choice; it offers functionality as well as the visual appeal that many off-roaders look for in a bumper.

When choosing a new bumper for your Jeep, it is important to look at all available styles and make a choice based on what will best suit your needs. If you are not experienced in replacing bumpers, you may want to have it done professionally to avoid any problems that may arise.

As a Jeep lover you understand the pain and suffering involved when you go out for a nice little mudding adventure on a Sunday afternoon and first thing that happens is that you hit a weird bump and you break something. It is very possible that you have just ruined your Sunday afternoon plans which we all know will also know will ruin the work weak because you will sit in your cubicle and think about how stupid you were for not carrying back-up Jeep axel replacement parts. One of the coolest things about the way Jeeps are built is that many of the replacement part for the axels are designed so you don’t have to disconnect the axels.

The back end of any good Jeep owner’s 4×4 should have two boxes; one for tools and the other with replacement parts for repairs on the fly. Most of what I have in my spare parts box are for the axel because many of these parts can be fixed in a very short time while out on the trails. Of course it may be easier to go home and fix them, but then you have to deal with the kids and other things that hang around your house on the weekend.

When I first stocked up my do it yourself Jeep axel replacement parts box I bought what is called a master installation kit. These types of kits include anything you need to fix your Jeep’s axel at home or on the fly. The one I picked up included pinion bearings, carrier bearings, a pinion nut, a pinion seal, preload shims (or crush collar), pinion shims, loctite, gasket, marking compound, differential shims, oil slingers and ring gear nuts.

You can usually pick up one of these master kits for less than $150, but the prices are often better from an on-line retailer. This way you don’t have to run around town looking for each piece when you need it. As you use parts replace them one-by-one so you always have a complete kit in your Jeep. If you always have a spare then you never have to worry about ruining your weekend fun.

As much as we Jeep owner’s like to think that Jeep makes their cars just for us off-road enthusiasts the fact of the matter is that they make their cars for the masses with mudders as an afterthought. Of course if you ask someone in the Jeep corporate hierarchy they will tell you that they do their best to make cars for both commuters and the 4×4 set. Either way we all know that the standard equipment found under the chassis of a Jeep is good, but we can always do better.

Most people who routinely ride their Jeeps through super bumpy terrain know that the standard axel shaft is not going to last you too long. Before you get stuck in the middle of know where we all suggest that you switch to an upgraded Jeep axel shaft to help save you the time and money you will lose.

If you think about it upgrading your axel shaft on your Jeep may actually save you money considering it isn’t free to call a towing service to get your out of the ditch where your broke your axel, not to mention the fact that you will have to pay the mechanic to fix the old axel shaft and you will probably end up upgrading anyway. See my point now?

Depending on the model of Jeep you use for your all terrain excursions you may not have to replace the whole axel to do your upgrade. There are a few things you can do to make it sturdier. One of the things you can do is buy a Front Axel Grande Spline Outer/Unit Bearing. There is also the option of replacing the Jeep Axel shaft with a kit that contains the 30/30 spline kit that upgrades the inner and outer splines for a much more rugged axel.

At the end of the day you will be very pleased that you upgraded you’re the axel shaft on your Jeep because you will have peace of mind and you won’t have any hesitation to hit those bumps as hard as you can over and over.

In keeping with trying to bring to the forefront all of the available off roading groups around the state, I bring to you today Ocean State Jeepsters located in Rhode Island. The Ocean State Jeepsters was suggested to us by John Benton. If you know of a group that we haven’t featured yet, please let us know and we will add it to our list. Please provide the URL with your suggestion. If the site does not have a current website, give us some background information on it and address and we will get it posted.

Here is some information about Ocean State Jeepsters from their official website http://oceanstatejeepsters.com/.

Ocean State Jeepsters is a non-profit organization. It seeks to advance four-wheeling as a safe, enjoyable, and environmentally responsible outdoor sport. Trail rides are regularly hosted and there are lots of social events for members. The group also works to expand land access through private partnerships, public education, and legislators.

Anyone who is 18 or over and wants to know more about four-wheeling is welcome to join. An application and registration form must be completed for the online forum to be eligible for membership and it has to be approved by the Secretary. After a provisional member attends 2 club events and a quarterly business meeting, they are voted into membership. There are dues, and these dues are decided at the first of every year and are due annually. Dues are $50 if someone joins between January and June and $25 for those who join after June.

The group has a Facebook page located at Ocean State Jeepsters: www.facebook.com/Ocean.State.Jeepsters. The group has been in place since Jul 2007 and has full membership to the Northeast Association of 4WD clubs and wishes to protect and promote the environment. They are also members of Treat Lightly, which helps promote responsible outdoor recreation. The group also belongs to the Blue-Ribbon Coalition which helps to protect the environment and promote public use that is responsible. They are very active in charity work such as with the Make-A-Wish foundation.
