In keeping with trying to bring to the forefront all of the available off roading groups around the state, I bring to you today MUD NY located in Central New York. The MUD NY group was suggested to us by David Lane. If you know of a group that we haven’t featured yet, please let us know and we will add it to our list. Please provide the URL with your suggestion. If the site does not have a current website, give us some background information on it and address and we will get it posted.
Here is some information about MUD NY from their official website: www.mudnyclub.com.
MUD NY is a family friend club that is based out of Central New York. Any kind of 4×4 is allowed and there are members who have Jeeps, Chevys, and everything in between. The club’s purpose is to promote safe, sensible operations of the stock and modified 4 wheel drive vehicles on and off road as well as to provide activities that are recreational, educational, and social for members. It does not cost anything to be a member.
The club was founded January 11, 2010 by David Lane. It is designed for both casual and die hard off roaders. It will be organized as a non-profit organization and participates in and supports activities that will better the community. On their website you can find a list of required and recommended equipment, the links to the group’s Facebook page, Facebook group, and Twitter page, as well as affiliates, resources, news, and a forum. There is even a calendar where members and visitors can keep up with the upcoming events. The forum is a great place for members to get to know each other and discuss technical issues, land or trail issues, and to buy or sell parts for their 4×4.

I don’t know that I consider myself a die hard off roader but I’m pretty close. After sitting behind a desk all week in a 3 piece suit and tie, playing nice with the customers, I need some way to let off the pent up energy and steam that builds all week. I’m probably a couple of hours away from this area but that’s totally doable for a weekend getaway. I recently transferred to the New York office from Tennessee so I’m not really all that famililiar with the state. I’m glad to know that there are off road areas close enough for me to take advantage. Since I just moved here I don’t know many people either and this sounds like a great place to meet and make some new friends.
That sign sure got my blood pumpin. I’ve tried all kinds of terrains but mud has got to be my favorite. The guys I hang with call me the ‘Mud Dauber’. The good thing is, I don’t sting.
Family friendly is what I’m all about and I’m glad to see there is a club not too far from where I live that feels the same way. At least one or two of my 3 boys are with me when I head off road. I left a club a few months back because most of them were young and had no kids of their own and just did not seem capable of watching their language. I want to be able to have fun with my sons and not have to worry about the secondary education they may be getting from uncensored conversation.
I spend a lot of time in and around the river bottoms so I can relate to mud. The local carwash makes me hose off before I make a run through as the amount of mud I shed tends to clog the drain. My Mom tells everyone that I still spend my weekends playing in the sandbox. I conform through the week as I work in a bank but the weekends are my get down and get dirty time and I take full advantage of them.
